If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading. - Lao Tzu
Counselling can offer an opportunity to find a way through in a relationship that has perhaps become stuck in the rut, or mired in hopelessness, negativity, and mistrust. It is not uncommon for couples to suddenly find themselves with no shared understanding, no hopes for the future, and bogged down in conflict. It can be pretty hard to figure out when and how a relationship changed from a loving and companionable one to one of repeated misunderstandings, heated arguments or frosty silence.
Sometimes it is a stressful life event that has brought about the difficulty, sometimes physical or mental ill health that is hard to cope with. Sometimes disappointment have simply accumulated over time. Perhaps one partner is on the autistic spectrum and communication is difficult. It is well established that miscommunication can be the single biggest thing that brings about relationship difficulties.
Even for couples who decide to separate, counselling offers the chance to remain on amicable terms and to parent well. This is hugely beneficial for the future of their children and wider families.
