Affairs – whether it be a brief fling, or a full-fledged one lasting for a period of time - are a fundamental breach of trust. However they do not always signal the end of the relationship. Whilst trust can take a long time to be re-gained, it is possible, and many couples go on to have a stronger - but a different and more equal - relationship after an affair.
Counselling can help you understand what is really communicated through the affair, and to decide whether you have a future together, and what that might look like. If the decision is to separate, and there are children involved, then it is very important to separate well and find a way to maintain a mature relationship for the well-being of the children.
